I took my first bear hunt with Joe a few years back and had a great time. I only had a short time due to obligations back home, but Joe accommodated me perfectly. I stayed at his camp and got to hang out with other hunters that were there and share in their success. I did harvest my first bear and can't wait to go back again. A nephew and brother-in-law have also gone a couple of times and love as well. I can't recommend Joe enough. His knowledge and easy going personality really make the hunt a fun experience, whether you are a newbie like me or a more experienced hunter. I will definitely go back as soon as my point total gets high enough. Thanks Joe!

Hi everyone. My name is Brian and I don't know where to start. I met Joe by accident. I was recommended a different guide by a friend of mine and when I contacted him he informed me that he was now retired. I had waited a long time for this hunt and had heard to many bad stories about different services. So being that this man I was talking to was a recommended highly I though I could take his word and decided to pick his mind for a recommendation and was referred to Joe. Best call I made. This man will do his very best to make this experience the best he can for you. He understands that you have waited 7 or 8 years or possibly more. I have seen first had all the work put into his stands and bait sights. His camp is also part of the great experience. After the hunt getting to hear and see what other hunters have harvested or seen and just hang out with everyone. I am hoping to see Joe again this year with my son having his first bear tag. I could only trust my friend Joe with my boys first bear hunt.

I have always had outstanding experiences and opportunities in Joe’s camp. I have hunted myself, and with other friends and family members over the years. Joe goes the extra mile to be sure all hunters are treated equally and have the best time possible in the bear woods. Considering in WI we only have the privilege to hunt after being successful in the draw, I wouldn’t think of hunting with anyone else knowing that the opportunity is years away from happening again!

Went bear hunting with my son Garrett September 2017 with Joe Kalmon at Wisconsin Black Bear guide Service. I had been waiting for over 6 years for a tag and when I finally received one I was a bit excited. I had a great time, tagged out on a bear in 3 days in Zone D. This is a hunt over bait. The stand sites were all terrific and had active bears as evidenced by the trail cams. I can not recommend Joe and his other great guides highly enough (Walt, Mark, Jason) these are truly good people. High success rates were experienced for all the hunters in our camp. The Mellen area is beautiful in the fall. We golfed, visited the Copper Falls state park, which is amazing, rode ATVs and oh yea I shot a 325 pond bear.

Mr. Kalmon was suggested to me by a friend as a great option for me to bear hunt with. Having a disability due to a severe injury I was concerned that the extra effort on my guides part that I would need would be more than the guide service could handle. Not only did Joe jump at the chance to take the challenge but has. of this past fall. provided me with two hunts that will be forever cherished. Not only that but he quickly has become one of my true and genuine friends. His guide service has my whole-harted, enthusiastic recommendation to anyone interested in bear hunting in Wisconsin. I hunted with Joe during the fall of 2016. I met Joe many years ago at the Wisconsin Deer & Turkey Expo, which I have not missed in years. And every year I attended, there was Joe Kalmon, Wisconsin bear hunter & guide. I saved his business card and recognized that he was a regular for many years. This was important to me as I want a guide who has roots and is in this for the long haul. Not some fly by the night outfitter from down state. I want someone trust worthy when I spend my hard earned money. So after talking to Joe several times, I was sure when I drew a tag, he was my guide. When I drew my tag I immediately contacted Joe and we were off and running. Plans and booking were clear and precise. I visited Joe late summer of 2016 and spent the morning baiting and getting to know one another. This was a huge deal for me. After that I knew I would have a good hunt. I spent the entire five days hunting and though I could have killed several bears, I passed on the opportunities. I stayed in Glidden and hunted two different stands that were active. I never once was interrupted by any other human activity. I bow hunted and the stands were comfortable and easy to access. Excellent experience and I will be back hunting with Joe in the near future.
